Description

Keratoconus [meaning cone shaped cornea] is a disease of cornea in which the cornea changes its shape, becomes cone like, weak and thin. Due to this change in shape and strength, the astigmatism [cylindrical power of the eye] increases, it becomes irregular and the distance vision of the patient will gradually decrease. This condition usually occurs in teens and twenties gradually progressing over a period of 2 to 5 years. The early signs and symptoms of this disease are gradual dimness of vision, frequent changes of glass power, increase in cylindrical power, night vision problem, eye strain, fatigue, etc. It is very important to diagnose the disease in its earliest stage, so that minimum damage will occur to the eye.
